ABOUT US
Here, we make wine.
Here, on the 43rd parallel.
Here, in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, in the municipality of Montalcino.
Here, near the Abbey of Sant’Antimo, standing since the end of the 8th century.
Here, where agriculture has sustained life since the Bronze Age, keeping the Etruscans and later the Romans alive.
Here, in this paradise of nature, we make wine: because this is what fills our lives.
Here, we make wine… and our duty is to protect this marvel, untouched for millennia.Francesco Illy
Discovery
Here North and South meet and give birth to wines in which density and lightness coexist simultaneously.
In Castelnuovo dell’Abate, at the far southeastern corner of Montalcino, lies a piece of land that remained unnoticed for a long time. At a time when few dared, we began our winemaking adventure, driven by passion and dedication, where the presence of the Orcia River and Mount Amiata creates a unique microclimate.

Intuition
Years of research, curiosity, and a deep connection to our land.
Since 1975 we have been crafting wines with a recognizable identity: for each vintage, we always choose the most genuine expression of the land. The intuition soon reinforced this mission to parcel two plots and vinify them individually, an early approach for its time. Vigna Schiena d’Asino and Vigna Loreto are still today the two vineyards that best represent Mastrojanni.

Vision
A wonderful story
We have always felt the need to challenge ourselves.
Since November 2022, we have embarked on a transformative journey, moving towards a holistic approach to cultivation. Currently, our agricultural methods are based on non-invasive practices. At Mastrojanni, herbicides have never been used, and since November 2022, no chemical products have been applied. We cultivate the land with respect, preserving biodiversity and maintaining the genetic heritage of our vineyards. It is our deep understanding of the soil that guides the care of the vineyards along with the attentive listening to nature by the people who work for it.
Time seems to tell us that the true wonder of these places lies in their identity, inspiring us, transcending even those who own the land.
